RCL will join CNC and ONE as vessel operator on the China-Indonesia Malaysia (CS2/CIM) service that it brands as the RCL South China-Indonesia (RCI) from 30 December 2023. The service connects Hong Kong, Shekou, Nansha, Surabaya, Semarang, Jakarta, Port Klang, Hong Kong and turns in 3 weeks with 3 ships of 2,500-2,600 teu. RCL will deploy the 2,598 teu URU BHUM at Hong Kong on 30 December 2023 joining the 2,478 teu APL PUSAN from CNC and 2,664 teu NYK DANIELLA from ONE.
Russian operator Transmasters' China to St Petersburg service has been disrupted by financial troubles with 6 of its ships stranded since December 2023. Transmasters have notified its customers on 15 December 2023 of an emergency surcharge of $1,750/teu for cargo already loaded on the 1,662 teu HONRISE that has been stranded off Sweden since 23 November 2023. FESCO has launched a new FESCO Egypt Direct Line (FEDL) service from 13 December 2023 connecting Novorossiysk, Alexandria, Novorossiysk with the 1,118 teu FESCO ASKOLD. The service will turn in 13-14 days using a single ship. Maersk has launched a new Tunis Cagliari feeder service using roro ships connecting Cagliari, Tunis (Rades), Cagliari. The service was launched on 11 November 2023 with the 11,630 dwt roro cargo ship WEDELLSBORG that was previously operated by Italian carrier Grupo Grendi on the domestic Cagliari-Carrara Marine Cagliari line service. CMA CGM will launch a new North America-Morocco Express (NAMEX) service connecting Tanger Med, Halifax, New York, Philadelphia, Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, Tanger Med from 9 January 2024. The seasonal service is aimed at the exports of fruit and vegetables from Morocco to North America. It will be operated as part of CMA CGM's Columbus JAX (CJX) service with the addition of new calls at Tanger Med as well as Philadephia. Zim has announced higher rates for its Asia-Med Zim Med Premium (ZMP) service that has been rerouted to the Cape route from its regular Suez routing from December 2023 in order to avoid the Houthi attacks on ships using the Red Sea passage. MSC has upgraded its FE-US West Coast Jaguar service to the 19,000 teu scale with ships that have been redeployed from the Asia-Europe routes due to their Israeli links.
